Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a cookie sheet and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla and mix to combine.
  • Add 2 cups of flour, baking powder, salt, to the mixture. Beat until combined.
  • Gradually add ¼ cup milk mix to combine. Add the remaining flour, mixing just until incorporated. Finish with remailing ¼ cup milk, mixing until well incorporated.
  • Scoop dough using a 1 oz cookie scoop, or place 2 tbsp. dough onto cookie sheet. Bake for 11-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly brown and the tops are lightly golden. Watch them closely to prevent overbaking.
  • Remove from the oven and allow cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

Buttermilk Substitute: If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a quick substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes before using.
Chilling is Crucial: Do not skip the chilling step as it helps the cookies maintain their shape and enhances the flavors.
Storage: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
