Equipment

  • Food Processor - or pastry cutter

Ingredients

For the Scone Dough

  • 2 ¼ cup All Purpose Flour
  • ¼ cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 stick Unsalted Butter 4 oz
  • 1 Egg
  • ½ cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Orange Juiced and zested (2 tablespoon juice +1 teaspoon zest)

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup Confectioners Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Melted Butter
  • 1 Orange Juiced and zested (2 tablespoon juice +1 teaspoon zest)
  • ½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Prepare the butter for the food processor by dicing it into 1-inch cubes. Alternatively, to make it without a food processor, grate frozen butter with a box grater.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the cream, egg, and orange zest.
  • In the bowl of a food processor, pulse together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  •  Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and gently combine until just moistened.
  •  Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface, pat the dough into a large, flat circle, and cut it into wedges using a bench scraper.
  • Place the scones on a prepared baking sheet and bake for about 12 minutes or until very lightly browned on the edges. Be careful not to overbake.

Glaze the scones

  • In a small bowl, mix together powdered sugar, melted butter, orange juice, and vanilla extract. Spoon the glaze over the cooled scones and enjoy!
