Ingredients

Dry Ingredients (Layered in Jar):

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour, if needed
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ¾ cup packed dark brown sugar light brown sugar works too
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips

Instructions

Instructions for Assembling the Jar:

  • Bottom Layer: Start with flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Use a funnel for neat layers, if possible.
  • Middle Layers: Add the dark brown sugar, pressing it down slightly with a spoon, followed by the white sugar.
  • Top Layer: Finish with chocolate chips for a beautiful, colorful top layer.
  • Seal the jar tightly with the lid, and decorate with twine or ribbon. Attach the printable tag with baking instructions.

Wet Ingredients (to Add Later):

  • ¾ cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg (at room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Baking Instructions (for the Gift Tag):

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Empty the contents of the jar into a large bowl.
  • Add ¾ cup melted butter, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Jar can be stored in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
Shelf Life After Baking: Store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
