  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cup warm milk about 110°F
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour for dusting

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in the warm milk. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the frothy yeast mixture, the egg, and the melted butter. Mix on a low setting until a soft dough forms.
  • Increase the mixer speed to medium and knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic. If kneading by hand, turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for the same amount of time.
