Peanut Butter Cup Brown Butter Blondie

Published: Aug 1, 2020 · Modified: Mar 28, 2021 by Better Baker · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

This peanut butter cup brown butter blondie is a sweet dessert bar that resembles a brownie. It's studded with peanut butter cup pieces and has a wonderful butterscotch flavor, thanks to the brown sugar and browned butter. Once you make these, you will never go back to ordinary blondies again.

OMG! These Peanut Butter Cup Brown Butter Blondies are To-Die-For!

Friends... I am going to say this in the most plain and clear language I know.. MAKE THIS RECIPE! Go to the store, buy the ingredients, make them, leave the dishes. Sit on your couch and let that wonderful flavor fill you up. Eat more than any one person should. Then after your food baby digests go nibble some more. These are that good!

Why are these Peanut Butter Cup Brown Butter Blondies so good?

Lets break this down.

  1. A blondie is a non-chocolate brownie. Its made by taking away the chocolate and replacing it with brown sugar.
  2. Brown sugar, boiled together with butter makes butterscotch.
  3. Brown butter has a wonderful butterscotch flavor.

So now you may be thinking, these sound amazing, I'm sold.

What chocolate is to brownies, brown butter, and brown sugar are to blondies.

I decided to take it to the next level and add chopped Mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups to the batter. It is a heavenly flavor combination that really works.

This Peanut Butter Cup Brown Butter Blondie is the perfect Potluck Dessert

Next time you go to a picnic, a potluck or even Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving try bringing these tasty little bars.

The flavors will have people asking how you made them, and you'll sound fancy when you talk about how you browned the butter!

Be prepared to share the recipe though, because people are going to ask for it!

So what exactly is brown butter?

Brown butter is a melted butter that is cooked just long enough to toast the milk solids in the butter. As it toasts it takes on a warm caramel flavor.

Should I strain the brown butter?

As the butter browns, it gets little flecks of brown solids in the butter. This is actually where all the delicious nutty caramel flavor is, so do not strain these out.

How do I use brown butter?

Brown butter can be used in all sorts of ways in baking. It's a natural addition to anything that you want to have a deeper, more buttery flavor.

Try it in Banana Bread, Chocolate Chip Cookies, or Pound Cake.

Baking Your Blondies

Use a 10 by 10 square pan for this recipe, and grease your pan well.

brown butter blondie step one

Make your brown butter ahead of time and let it cool.

In a sauce pan over low-medium heat melt the butter. Watch it closely as it browns. When you start to see light brown flacks forming on the bottom and the color changes to caramel, its done.

Brown Butter Blondies step two

Cream the Brown sugar and butter together.

In the bowl of your mixer with the paddle attachment, cream the cooled brown butter and brown sugar together.

Brown Butter Blondie step three

Add the eggs and mix until the mixture becomes smooth and glossy

Cream the brown sugar, brown butter, and eggs on medium speed for about 3 minutes. You'll notice it becomes smooth and glossy.

Since this recipe doesn't actually have much leavening you want to whip air into the butter mixture to help lighten things up.

brown butter blondie step four

Add the flour, salt and baking powder.

Pour the dry ingredients into the mixer and mix on low speed. Don't mix like you did with the sugar and butter. This time it is just to combine things.

brown butter blondie step five

Pour in into the prepared pan.

Into the pan that you greased pour half of the blondie batter. Scatter the chopped Reese's mini cups evenly so that each bite of blondie will have some of the Reese's in it. Top with the other half of the batter. Smooth evenly with a spatula. Sprinkle the top of the batter with the chocolate chips.

brown butter blondie step six

Bake at 350° for 30 -40 minutes or until done in the center.

You can tell when your blondies are done by checking the edges. They will begin to look caramelized and pull away from the sides of the pan. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert over a cooling rack and allow to cool.

Cut into 9 servings.
