TikTok made it famous for a reason. It's the kind of treat you can make in one large bowl with simple pantry basics, no fuss, no mixer. It’s so good you’ll skip the box mix from now on. I promise!

Why Everyone Loves This TikTok Brownie Recipe

If you're a true brownie person, this homemade brownie recipe checks all the boxes.

  • Cakey meets chewy – A thick, soft center with a little fudgy bite and perfectly crispy edges.
  • Simple, pantry-friendly ingredients – No need for melted chocolate bars. This is a cocoa powder-based recipe that’s rich and satisfying.
  • Mix it and bake it – One bowl, no chill time, and ready to eat in under an hour.

What Cocoa Powder Should You Use for These Brownies?

Did you know the type of cocoa powder you use can totally change how your brownies turn out? If you’re going for that rich, fudgy texture with a deep chocolate flavor, try using Dutch-processed cocoa powder. It’s smoother, darker, and gives your brownies that bakery-style finish.

But don’t worry, if all you have is Hershey’s regular cocoa powder, that works great too! Either way, these brownies will be absolutely delicious.

Tools You’ll Need

Before you get started, make sure you’ve got:

  • A large mixing bowl (yep, just one!)
  • Whisk or wooden spoon
  • 8x8 baking pan
  • Parchment paper for easy lift-out
  • A rubber spatula to scrape every last bit of batter

Ingredients

This recipe sticks to baking basics, which means you probably already have everything on hand:

Butter – Melted butter makes the brownies rich and fudgy.

Sugar – We use regular sugar to keep it simple. It helps create that shiny, crackly top.

Cocoa Powder – This gives the brownies their deep chocolate flavor. Dutch-process is great if you have it, but any unsweetened kind will work.

Eggs + One Yolk – The whole eggs give structure, and the extra yolk makes them extra chewy.

Vanilla – Just a splash to bring out all the chocolatey goodness.

Flour – A little bit is all you need.

Salt – Try adding a pinch to the tops after baking. It makes the chocolate pop!

Chocolate Chips – I like bittersweet chocolate chunks, but semi-sweet chips work well too. Don’t forget to save a few to sprinkles for the top before baking!

Tips for Perfect Brownies Every Time

I’ve baked these brownies more times than I can count, and they never disappoint. Here’s what to do to get perfect results every single time:

  • Whisk well- Beat the eggs and sugar until glossy for a shiny, crackly top.
  • Don’t overmix- Fold in the flour gently to keep the texture fudgy.
  • Use an 8x8 pan- This size keeps the brownies thick, rich, and perfectly chewy.

Ingredients

  • 9 tablespoons unsalted butter 136 g, melted
  • 1¼ cups granulated sugar 275 g
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder 65 g
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 4 g
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour 45 g
  • ¼ teaspoon salt 1.5 g
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips 70g

Instructions

Prep your pan:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch square prepared pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.

Make the butter mixture:

  • In a heatproof bowl, melt the butter. Stir in the granulated sugar and cocoa powder until fully combined.

Add the eggs mixture:

  • Whisk in the eggs and egg yolk one at a time until the mixture is smooth, glossy, and thick. Stir in the vanilla.

Add the dry ingredients:

  • Gently fold in the flour and salt using a rubber spatula or wooden spoon. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in the chocolate:

  • Stir in the chocolate chips, saving a few to sprinkle on top of the batter.

Bake:

  • Spread the batter evenly in your prepared pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and serve:

  • Let brownies cool in the pan for at least 2–3 hours for clean slices. Lift using parchment paper and cut into squares.

Notes

  • For the shiny top: Whisk the eggs and sugar well until the mixture is thick and glossy. This creates that crackly, TikTok-famous crust.
  • Use Dutch-processed cocoa powder for a deeper, smoother chocolate flavor—but regular unsweetened cocoa (like Hershey’s) works too!
  • Don’t overmix after adding the flour. Gently fold it in just until combined to keep the brownies soft and fudgy.
  • Use an 8x8-inch pan to keep the brownies thick and chewy with crispy edges.
  • Let them cool completely (2–3 hours) before slicing for clean edges and the best texture.
  • Customize it! Add chocolate chunks, a swirl of peanut butter or almond butter, or a sprinkle of sea salt on top before baking.
