Easy Valentines Treats

Thisis is an easy Valentine’s Day idea that fits busy schedules and still looks adorable.

Perfect For:

  • Valentine’s Day bake sales
  • Kids activities
  • party favors
  • Galentine’s gifts

What’s Inside the Bag

The star of these Valentine’s treats is a decorate your own heart cookie.

I use my No Chill Sugar Cookie Recipe, which means no waiting and no spreading. Just mix, roll, cut out heart shapes, and bake. It is not a new recipe, but it is one I come back to every Valentine’s Day because it's easy, and it always works!

Once the cookies are completely cooled, each one goes into a cello bag with a small piping bag of Shelf Stable Buttercream Frosting. I like to add a small bag of sprinkles too. This turns the treat into a fun Valentine’s Day activity, not just a cookie.

What You’ll Need

Here is everything you need to put these Valentine’s bag toppers together.

  • Heart shaped sugar cookies (my favorite sugar cookie recipe)
  • Shelf stable buttercream frosting (my favorite frosting recipe)
  • Small piping bags (this is what I use)
  • Cellophane bag for the cookie, and a smaller one for the sprinkles
  • White cardstock paper
  • Stapler
  • Scissors or a paper trimmer

Bake the Heart Cookies

Before you start cutting, make sure your heart cookie cutter fits comfortably inside your cellophane bag. You want a little extra space for the frosting bag and sprinkles.

Roll out your sugar cookie dough and cut as many heart shapes as possible before re-rolling the dough. Bake the cookies until they are set and no longer shiny on top, but not browned on the edges.

Let the cookies cool completely before packaging. Warm cookies will create moisture inside the bag.

Prepare the Buttercream

Make the Shelf Stable Buttercream Frosting first.

Trim your piping bags so they are about 6 inches from tip to top. You will need one small bag for each cookie.

Place all of the buttercream into one large piping bag, then use that bag to neatly fill the smaller ones.

Seal the tops with washi tape to keep everything closed and tidy.

Add the Sprinkles

Fill a small cellophane bag with colorful sprinkles and seal it closed. It is a simple add on that makes the kit more fun and lets kids decorate their Valentine cookie their own way.

The file includes 3 different designs, so you can mix and match your favorites when assembling the bags.

These free printables are for personal use only.

Print and Cut the Toppers

Print the toppers on white cardstock paper for the best results.

Cut along the lines. You can use scissors, but a paper trimmer makes this much faster if you are prepping for a class or group.

Fill the Cellophane Bags

Place one heart cookie, one frosting bag, and the sprinkles into each cellophane bag.

Line everything up neatly so the top of the bag is straight.

Attach the Valentine’s Bag Toppers

Fold the topper in half. The back of the toppers is blank, which keeps the look clean and simple. (You could also add your ingredient label here.)

Staple the topper over the top of the cello bag.

That’s it. Your Valentine’s Day treat bag toppers are done!

Shelf Life and Make Ahead Tips

  • Baked sugar cookies stay fresh at room temperature for up to 3 days when stored in an airtight container.
  • Shelf stable buttercream frosting keeps well for 1 to 2 weeks when stored in a tightly sealed piping bag at room temperature.
  • Fully assembled cookie kits are best enjoyed within 24 to 48 hours for the freshest look and texture.

Make Ahead Option:

  • Bake the cookies up to 2 weeks ahead and freeze them undecorated.
  • Thaw completely at room temperature before assembling the kits.
  • Assemble the bags the day before or the morning of your event.

You can freeze the baked cookies ahead of time, which makes prep much easier. Freeze the cookies only. Do not freeze the frosting or the fully assembled kits.
