What Makes This Golden Grahams Snack Mix Special

As a baker, I love recipes that make my busy days easier. This s’mores snack mix is shelf stable, which means you can make it ahead of time. It’s perfect for road trips, summer months, movie nights, or even packaging up for the holiday season. I’ve sold mixes like this at markets, and they’re always a huge hit because they look so cute in cellophane bags with a little label on top. This is one of those delicious desserts that doubles as both a family treat and a market-ready product.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Here’s an overview of the simple ingredients for this dessert snack mix.

  • Golden Grahams cereal – One full box. Save a little to sprinkle in at the end for extra crunch.
  • Mini marshmallows – One full bag. They melt slightly when tossed in with the warm chocolate and create that gooey, s’mores flavor.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips – Melted down with a little oil to coat the mix evenly.
  • Vegetable oil – Just 1 tablespoon helps the chocolate drizzle smoothly over the cereal mixture.
  • Powdered sugar – Tossed in at the end, just like Puppy Chow, to give this mix its irresistible sweet coating.
  • Hershey’s chocolate bar (optional) – Chopped into small pieces and added at the end for classic s’mores chunks.
  • Extra mini marshmallows (optional) – Stirred in at the end so you get both chocolate covered and cute tiny little marshmallows.

How to Make This Golden Grahams Snack Mix Recipe

This recipe comes together in just a few simple steps, very similar to making Puppy Chow:

  1. Melt the chocolate
Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until completely melted (about 2 minutes total). Stir in 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to make the chocolate smooth and pourable.
  2. Mix the base
In a very large mixing bowl, combine about ¾ of the box of Golden Grahams cereal with the full bag of mini marshmallows. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the top and toss until everything is evenly coated.
  3. Add the sugar coating
Sprinkle the powdered sugar over the cereal mixture. Toss again until all the pieces are coated and the mix looks evenly dusted.
  4. Finish with extras
Stir in the chopped Hershey’s bar, any additional Golden Grahams cereal, and extra mini marshmallows if using. Toss lightly to distribute without melting the add-ins.
  5. Cool and package
Spread the mix onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it cool at room temperature before scooping into bags.

Yield: This recipe makes a very large batch! I portion mine into 5-ounce bags and get about 20 bags per batch, perfect for events or markets.
