What Makes These Energy Balls Vegan?

Making these energy balls vegan means that there are no ingredients that are derived from animal sources. With no bake energy balls, there are no eggs to bind them. Instead, they use a blend of natural sweetener and healthy fats to hold together in a ball form.

How to Make These Energy Balls Gluten-Free

Making these delicious Chocolate Espresso Energy Balls gluten-free is simple. All you need to do is use certified gluten-free oats in your recipe. Certified gluten-free oats are processed in facilities that prevent cross-contamination with gluten-containing grains, making them safe for those with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease.

For the complete recipe, including ingredient measurements and instructions, refer to the recipe card at the bottom of the page.

Effortlessly Easy to Make

These Chocolate Espresso Energy Balls are incredibly easy to make, requiring just a bowl, a spoon, and 20 minutes of your time! Simply mix the ingredients together, roll them into balls, and chill. It's that straightforward! No food processor or baking skills are needed!

Natural and Wholesome Ingredients

Here’s a look at the ingredients used in this recipe:

  • Oats: Using old-fashioned rolled oats (not quick oats) creates the best texture. Use certified gluten-free oats for a gluten-free version.
  • Almond Butter: Warm briefly in the microwave to combine more easily with the sweetener.
  • Seeds: The combination of chia and flax seeds adds a delicious crunch and a boost of omega-3s, protein, and fiber!
  • Natural Sweeteners: Maple syrup or agave nectar is recommended for a vegan option. For a non-vegan version, honey can also be used.
  • Coconut Flakes:  I prefer the unsweetened version for a cleaner flavor while still providing healthy fats and fiber.
  • Espresso Powder: Use instant espresso powder for a caffeine boost and rich flavor. I like this one for its smooth taste.
  • Chocolate Chips: Make sure to use vegan chocolate chips to keep the recipe vegan-friendly.
  • Vanilla Extract and Sea Salt: This combination gives the energy balls the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors.

There are no artificial sweeteners or added oils in this recipe. Just simple ingredients for a delicious healthy treat!

Tips for Making Perfect Vegan Energy Balls

1. Wear Gloves When Rolling

Wearing gloves while rolling your energy balls can help keep the process clean and prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands. This makes shaping the balls easier and quicker, with a more uniform appearance.

2. Chill After Rolling

After rolling the mixture into balls, place them in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes. Chilling helps the energy balls set and reduces stickiness, making them easier to handle and enjoy.

3. Use a Meatball or Cookie Scoop for Even Portions

For evenly sized energy balls, use a meatball scoop like this one or a cookie scoop. This ensures each ball is the same size, which helps with consistent chilling and presentation.
